A New Event Styling Idea Takes Shape

Behind the scenes, one of the newest businesses preparing to join the Otway Weddings & Events network has been experimenting with a clever new way to transform a traditional candelabra.
The result is still a prototype, but it offers an exciting glimpse at how creativity, technology and event styling can come together.
Reimagining a Traditional Candelabra
Candelabras have long been used to bring height, warmth and elegance to wedding and event tables. This new concept takes the familiar shape of a candelabra and gives it an entirely different look through a series of specially designed components. In a demonstration of the prototype, Otway Weddings & Events co-founder John Adams explains how each part comes together.
First, an LED candle is inserted into the candelabra. A rubber ring helps the candle sit firmly and securely within the holder.
A specially designed carrier—created as one complete piece using a 3D printer—is then fitted to the top of the LED candle.
The newly designed lampshade is placed over the carrier, transforming the appearance of the candle and creating a warm, softly illuminated feature.
It is a small addition that makes a remarkable difference.
Where Technology Meets Event Styling
The 3D-printed carrier may be one of the least visible parts of the finished centrepiece, but it is central to how the concept works.
Designed to connect the LED candle and lampshade, it allows the shade to sit in place while preserving the elegant height and structure of the original candelabra.
It is also a wonderful example of how 3D-printing technology can be used in unexpected ways.
Rather than creating technology for technology’s sake, this prototype uses it to solve a practical styling challenge and open the door to more creative possibilities.
One Centrepiece, Many Different Moods
The prototype’s real potential lies in how easily its appearance could be adapted.
Different coloured shades could be introduced to complement a wedding or event palette. Tassels, trims and other decorative details could also be added depending on the theme, setting or atmosphere being created.
A soft neutral shade could suit an elegant country wedding, while richer colours and decorative finishes could create something more theatrical for a gala dinner, milestone celebration or corporate event.
The underlying candelabra remains the same, but the mood can change completely.
As John says:
“Let your imagination run wild.”
The Details That Bring an Event to Life
Memorable event styling is often found in the smallest details.
It might be the way light falls across a table, the colour repeated through a room or an unexpected feature that encourages guests to stop and take a closer look.
This prototype demonstrates that innovation does not always mean replacing traditional pieces. Sometimes it means looking at something familiar and finding a new way to use it.
While the design is still being developed, it presents exciting possibilities for weddings, celebrations and events throughout our region.
